“Build it and they will come” Well the truth is, they are already coming and it hasn’t even been built yet. When the Michigan Legislature enacted the groundbreaking 2008 Film Incentives Program, it set the stage for an unprecedented number of film productions coming into the state of Michigan. Since then 37 films have been shot so far, including the box-office hit from Clint Eastwood called, Gran Torino.
This has been a great boost to an otherwise anemic economy. But something is missing…
Where is the infrastructure? To keep these film makers coming into the state, Michigan desperately needs sound stages….a place where film companies can do interior shooting all year long. Studio projects are now being planned on the eastern part of the state, nearest Detroit. But, there has been no mention of building infrastructure on the wonderful west side of Michigan.
The principals of V-One Entertainment Group, a California based company, recognizes the need to supply the ever growing Michigan film industry with “Hollywood Quality” Sound Stages. Following meetings with Janet Lockwood, Director of the Michigan Film Office, and consultation with the Michigan Office of Economic Development, research was launched to determine the viability of this emerging market. A business model was conceived, potential development sites in Western Michigan were explored and Great Lakes Studios LLC was formed.
Great Lakes Studios LLC is working to become the premiere provider of motion picture production services and sound stage facilities in the state of Michigan…starting with an anchor presence near the wondrous areas of Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Battle Creek.
